This is a fundraiser our school is doing. The advertisement was sent home while back but I was asked to send a reminder.
We spent some time colouring the flags of Ukraine (Saskatoon), Nunavut (Iqaluit) and of the Acadians (Meteghan). We discussed, again, about where in Canada they are located. We talked about important descriptors of each location. Saskatoon is flat and has many farmers. Iqaluit is up north, is cold and has small trees. Meteghan is by the ocean. There are cliffs and there are lots of fishermen.
In the afternoon, we did art. We worked with pastels. Sorry if clothes are messy.
Reminder that next week, on Tuesday, we are carving our pumpkins. More the merrier. If there is a volunteer to take the seeds and roast them for our Halloween party on Wednesday, please let me know. The kids put on costumes at lunch on Wednesday. There is a parade in the gym at 1PM and then our party. We will try and hold off from lunch until the party in the afternoon.
I will make hotdogs for the kids. If you could sign up to do one of the following that would be swell:
- package of hotdogs
- package of hotdogs
- package of hotdogs
- package of buns
- package of buns
- package of buns
- veggie platter
- veggie dip
- fruit tray
- ketchup chips
- salt and vinegar chips
- finger dessert?
Send me a note in your child's agenda for Monday and I will reply: OK or Thanks but no thanks or Could you send ____ instead?
Clear as mud? Good.
I am leaving to get some Red Bull before the dance that ends after my Friday night bedtime!!!

What a day! I read a French book about beavers because I am already tired of pumpkins. I explained that it is Canada's animal. They learned some new words: un barrage, imperméable, la fourrure, couper, la hutte; ask them if they can tell you what these words are!
After I read the story slowly, explaining the vocabulary and pictures in French and doing lots of repetition, I asked for 5 sentences. I put the vocabulary on the board and started them off with the first sentence. It went slowly for most but the end result is that they can do it. They can form sentences in French. They can spell phonetically and using a sound card to help. It will only get better!
This took all morning after the routine. We are on the 35th day of school! On a tally sheet at the back of the class, I have tallied, in groups of 5, the number of school days. Today there were 7 groups of 5. Five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, thirty-five! What's 7 X 5 ? I think they got it!
They are at music now and I blog. Yesterday, after days and days of asking if I was going out for recess, I did. It's tiring! They're all chasers! Here's a little glimpse:
When the kids get back, we are going to set up some Halloween Bingo cards for next week and then learn about the distance to and the climate of Saskatoon, Iqaluit, Meteghan. We will try and end the day with a little English spelling. I am bringing my 3 younger boys to the dance tomorrow night. I will see you there!
For entry into our Halloween party, I am asking that all students bring in something for the Food Bank. Food Bank donations lag at this time of year. Every little bit helps.

Today was a day of pumpkin movement. We started with our morning routine and, I must say, the kids are doing well with their long addition! After the morning routine, we spent some time making patterns with the pumpkins. Some were simple (big, small, big, small...) and some were a little tougher. Here is an example of a régularité croissante (growing pattern):
They had tired arms after this one! Have your child explain it to you please. Ask them if they can make their own growing pattern!?

Most kids are flying through their morning sentence writing. They enter class, get their stuff organized, put on shoes, and quickly sit down and start writing the morning sentence. When they finish, and as they wait for the others, there are some addition questions to try. We are working hard at making tens. 6+4, 9+1, 13+7, etc. Great job 2P!
Today we worked on the sound "ou". The kids had to cut out pictures that represent words that have that sound and then glue them in the appropriate picture. Cutting around the small picture, using their fine motor skills and word recognition and association!
In the afternoon, after music, we did a little more English. Spelling and reading. Next, I gave all the kids their pumpkin and we had to come up with as many descriptive words as we could! We shared them on the board and they wrote them in their scribbler.
We finished the day with some pattern making using the pumpkins and some writing/describing our pumpkins:)

We started the day working on math. The kids have been working on patterns. Here are a few. Could you have your child copy and extend them in their agenda for me!?

After morning recess we worked on the "ou" sound in French. Have your child read these to you:
mouton
bouton
rouge
jour
bijou
sous
tous
We also worked on the difference between ou (or) and où (where), again. Have your child copy and finish these using either ou or où:
______ sont les livres?
Je veux rouge _____ bleu.
La ville ____ je vis est Leduc.
Veux-tu deux ____ trois?
The kids started the afternoon with physical education where they did some circuit training:
We did some English language arts next. We read a sentence that uses all of the letters of the alphabet: The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog. We talked about consonants and vowels. We learned about the English spelling words for the week: fox, cut, hill, wind, put, all, moon, saw, tell, new. We will have a spelling test on these words Friday. We ended the day with some game time!
