Hello there! Nice day here in grade 2! The average male burns 2000 calories per day. Your kids have me up near 3000 cals easily! I need to clone myself! They are all eager learners and really doing a great job looking for answers.
We finished up our English writing about Inuit people. We worked hard at math addition. They spent much time coming up with different additions equaling 82, the number of school days thus far! Ask them if they can come up with 4 or 5!
We did some typing/dictation spelling practice today. Most students are coming home with a sheet with 5 sentences I dictated to them. They added the other 5 words that are our spelling words for the week. I say most because as I typed, I looked back at their desks and some forgot to put the sheet in the backpack. They words are : belt, yet, sell, tent, bread, head, said, bed, set, and help.
I will give them a sheet of paper with sentences and blank spaces. They will have to correctly spell the correct word. Ex: The dog's pants fell down because he didn't tighten his ________. (belt)
I go now! The last of my 4 hockey playing sons is trying to win to stay in minor hockey week tonight.
Bonne nuit!
Oh yeah! It was Sami's birthday and she was nice enough to have dad drop off sweets!!!
And here are a few grade 5ers reading with us during DEAR (Drop Everything And Read).

Today was a nice day. Very slippery outside, so say the kids! Helmets tomorrow? Bahahaha!
We did some math this morning. We worked on our number recognition! Getting there! We did some pattern extending. Great! We watched a short film about a boy named Inuk, who lives in the arctic. We wrote about Inuit people.
Homework: Have them write the word that goes in the blank please!
1. I am not ready ______________!
2. I banged my _________.
3. Before it was toast it was __________.
4. The dentist ________: "Don't forget to floss!"
If your family buys 4L pails of ice cream, could you please send in the lids? Large margarine container lids, or whipping cream container lids... White ones if you could! They're for an art project!

Today was another Iqaluit Day. We continued to talk about the customs and traditions that they have there. The kids coloured a winter scene and learned some new vocabulary. Tomorrow they will write, in English, a little more of what they have learned about this Canadian community.
We have been doing a lot of our math at the carpet for the last little while. Call it mental math. The kids must also complete an addition or 5 question(s) after writing the morning sentences. Most are doing well. Others are still having trouble recognizing numbers above 10 and this causes a lot of difficulty when trying to do simple addition.
This week we are learning the short e sound: yet, head, said. Homework in to complete a couple sentences about the importance of caring for your teeth on page 24.
My plan was to take the kids skating on Friday but the weather won't cooperate. Maybe next week.

Hello parents! Your children have been working hard at speaking in French, with many reminders. I am REALLY going to insist more and more that they try to do so, with the odd recess with me if they need many more reminders than the average student.
We have been focusing on Iqaluit in social studies. We talked about how the land is rocky and rolling hills, small trees, small houses on stilts because the hard uneven ground. We spoke about how Inuit people have dark hair and eyes and dress in traditional parkas made from animal skins and furs. Check out the bulletin board outside the room!
We are gearing up for Iqaluit Day, in February. We will continue to learn about the traditions/culture of the Inuit of the North until that day.
In science, magnetism! Attraction/repulsion, north/south, uses, applications, etc.
I assigned a short English reading and some writing for homework. Please ensure your child completes it and brings it back tomorrow.
Cheers,
