We talked about how today's date, the 25th, is a perfect square and I explained why.
We went outside and measured the temperature of different areas/things. A puddle by melting snow pile, a snow pile, water full of snow and ice, the air in the morning and the afternoon. In the direct sunlight out front of the school, 8 kids with thermometers recorded a temperature around 26 degrees Celsius! Spring has arrived! It really has!
We used the chromebooks at the end of the day and added to our presentation. These Chromebooks are basically internet tools. The kids will, one day soon, come home with their username/password, and open Google Chrome, so download it if you haven't, and show you the presentation they've been working on. We try to add a little every day. Imagine the speed with which a grade 2 student can navigate one of these units. I am full on trying to help them and guide them as their hands go up at each sign of a delay.
We spent a lot of the day working on temperature, insulation, etc. I boiled water and poured it into 2 cans, one of which was wrapped with lots of paper towel. We then took the temperature of each can of water at different time intervals. Obviously, the can that kept the water warmer for longer was the one insulated with paper towel. The kids will endeavour to insulate a can and see who's can insulate the best. Next week!
I will give a dictée tomorrow: au, aux, chaud, faux, il faut, autre.
I go run now! While I am running, have your child try to come up with some different materials that would be good insulators and some that wouldn't!?

Friday morning, don't feed your kids! I am making pancakes for breaky in class. It goes with our science unit on hot an cold. It is also to say goodbye to Karma, who is moving away.

April 22
Hello all. Today was a nice day. The kids worked on their new words for this week. They did a recap of why the liquid in a thermometer rises and falls. They practiced their Volunteer Tea song. If you got an invite, I am sure they'd love to see you in the audience. If you can't be there, this Friday afternoon, I will try to ensure it gets filmed and I will post it.
Could you have your child read this next bit and answer in their agenda, which should be in the backpack:
M. Pask a préparé 46 pizzas. Sa classe de 2P a mangé neuf. Combien est-ce qu'il lui reste?
Écris (write): Il lui reste _______ pizzas.
