It was a nice Friday. We did some pattern extending/interpreting in the morning. We did some map work on the Smartboard in the later morning and then music. Hot lunch was warm! Physical education happened after lunch and it seems to me that the kids came back with more energy than they left with.
I spent both short recesses outdoors with the kids. They chased me all around and I showed off on the monkey bars. I have nothing on these kids! We finished the day with art. The bat they made is in the agenda!
Have a nice weekend!!

Thursday, October 18 (Mini Friday!)
Hello all! Apparently, turning my computer off once in a while is good for the operating system!!
We have been having a pretty good week. Learning more sounds and doing a lot of writing. This morning, almost the entire class was in their desk at the bell and ready to go!!! It was splendid. Thank you so much.
Thank you, also, for the pumpkins. There is still time! We will be using them next week. We will be defacing them on Tuesday of next week. If there are volunteers who'd like to help out, the more the merrier! Tuesday after 9 AM is when we'll start. If you have pumpkin carving equipment, please feel free to send it in a labelled bag or bring it on your person if you are joining.
I think the recycling is going great! The kids are cleaning out their recyclables and bringing them home in their lunch kit and I think that is super.
As you can see, I have been teaching your kids how to gamble, I mean play cards. They are using proper language relative to the situation they're in. On this morning, they spoke almost entirely in French!!! "Non! Va pécher!" and "As-tu un deux?" Pretty cool!
We also put our math patterning knowledge to application:
On Halloween, we are going to do a rotation through the 4 grade classrooms. The students will be doing different activities at each centre. In the afternoon, there will be a costume parade and then we will party 2P style! I was hoping to have potluck. Maybe the kids could have a small snack for lunch and then eat from a choice of healthy/sugary Halloween themed dishes? If you are up to this, please email me indicating what you'd like to supply.
I must go home and cook and clean and do laundry and read with my kids and make them write words and sentences and do all the things you are probably doing as you read this.
Cheerio

October 15
WOW!!!!!!!!!! Half way through October already! Time flies! My 14 yr old was in diapers just the other day, or at least that is how it feels.
I spent the weekend in Hinton for a peewee hockey tournament. We won gold but the smell of that town is enough to cause me to stay away for a while.
Today was a slow day. We took our time and did some social studies in the computer lab. We talked about cold Iqaluit, up in the north. We talked about the flat lands around Saskatoon and all the farms there. We talked about Meteghan and its proximity to the ocean, the fish and Les Acadiens. I let them know that we will be learning all about these communities and then making a travel brochure for one of them. I said that they would be like the travel agents that help to book their trips to far off destinations!
After our time in the computer lab we did a bit of a review of the sounds from our dictées: "on" and "oi". Next I shared the six dictée words for this week. We are learning the sound "ou".
We worked for a bit on the difference between the meanings of the words: ou, meaning or, and où, meaning where.
Please send in a pumpkin with your child sometime this week. We will be using them to count, weigh, rank in size, etc. On Halloween we are going to carve them and yes, I would love your help and your carving tools.
Gotta go!
