Hello all! Hopefully you had a 100 day like we did! We skated up a storm. Did some relays, chased a dad around, play red light green light, tag. And no 70km/hr winds to push/fight us:)
The kids went through 4 centres this afternoon, to celebrate the 100th day of school. They counted how many times they could do ?? in 100 seconds. They made 100 day hats with 100 things drawn on them. They made a necklace with 100 fruitloops divided into groups of ten and they wrote down as many different ways to make 100. It was a blast!
I read a story, part of it, about a boy's experience with a whole year's countdown to the 100th day class celebration. I will finish it on Tuesday.
I hope you have a wonderful family day long weekend!

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you find time to show lots of love! I told each of the kids "Je t'aime!" this morning. Some replied in kind! Others looked away in disgust! HA! Kids are funny. We did a lot of carpet time math. I read a Valentine's story in French. The kids wrote about it. They did some French comprehension and math with a Valentine's theme. They worked on estimating a little bit. Most are pretty adept little estimators and have a bright future in the insurance industry!
The dictée tomorrow is : Je t'aime, J'aime, un coeur, un valentin, Cupidon, amour. We will try and do it before heading out to skate, if it isn't raining!!!!!
It is the 100th day of school tomorrow, which made today the Wayne Gretzky day of school. We are doing 100th day of school activities in the afternoon. How many/much ______ can you do/_____ in 100 seconds? They will make a 100th day hat. There is another craft in one of the other teacher's rooms. It will be a centre-like rotation in the grade 2 classrooms.
Here are a few pics from skating:
A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE PARENTS THAT CAME OUT AND HELPED TIE SKATES IN THE FREEZING COLD 70KM/HR WINDS!!!!!!!!
MR. SHUMAN, MR. SHARRATT, MR. STANISLAWSKI, MRS. PROCKIW, MRS ROY, AND MAMÈRE DE MATHIEU GILL:)
ALSO, A BIG THANK YOU TO EVAN'S MOM FOR HELPING OUT IN CLASS THIS AFTERNOON AND FOR THE APPLES. THANKS TO DERRICK, HANNAH AND KIYOSHI'S MOM FOR THE SWEETS!! IF I FORGOT YOU, IT'S BECAUSE MY ADHD IS ACTING UP.

We did a lot of math this morning. One more than, less than, ten more than, less than, long addition with regrouping. We talked about cooperation with Mrs. Weatherby's class and did some poster making. We skated up a storm and did and didn't need to use much energy, depending on the direction, because of the vicious wind. The kids had a blast and didn't complain, except for a few bumps and bruises. It is not really school/teaching, some might say, but it is! Hearing and using the language in an alternate environment is only going to enrich the language and one's understading/appreciation.
Pictures to come!
Tomorrow, I have bought mini cupcakes for the kids, we will do math with cinnamon hearts before eating them, and they will make graphs using Sweet Heart candies of different colours. I plan on reading a couple stories about Valentine's Day. One in French and another in English. Feel free to swing by and hang out!
If your kids could, have them wear RED or PINK; you know, for Valentine's Day and all!!!
I will too:)

Tomorrow we will skate from 1:30-2:30ish! I haven't heard from anyone that helmets or skates are an issue so hopefully we will all get to skate. Again, we are going to skate on Friday in the morning after recess, from 10-11.
Tomorrow is comfy wednesday! Sweats or leggings, cougar wear or any ol' comfy outfit. No pajamas please!
Today we read quit a lot. We read simple sentence books in French. I then asked the kids to give me 8 sentences that started with "Je peux..." or I can... This was troublesome for the group. Please ask your child to write down 3-5 sentences that start with : I can... The point is not to have them write simple sentences that any ol' person can do. What makes them special or different from others. Can they play piano or violin? Can they run a 4 minute mile? This would be better than : I can jump. I can walk. I can run.
We are putting together a little book of 8 sentences with an illustration for each.

Well I hope your children enjoyed an extra long weekend. I enjoyed a day in Jasper on Saturday...the weather was perfect! This is going to be an eventful week. Thursday is Valentine's Day. Friday is the 100th day of school! I would like to take your children skating this week. It is going to be nice out all week. How about Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning!? Please send your child with his/her skates and a CAC Approved helmet for those days. Bike helmets aren't allowed. We are going to see how this goes. If you are available to help tie skates on Wednesday afternoon, after lunch (13:30ish), please feel free to join us. Same thing for Friday morning after recess (1045ish).
